What does one do when bored? Well... Play a prank!
My friend, say Madhavi, is an enthusiastic person, and she stayed with me during the weekend. My otherwise silent house was filled with chatter, and gossips! Madhavi is a sweetheart. I like her.
Through her talks, she was describing and introducing me to her friends and family. I had a picture of each one of them in my mind. She told me about a friend who was in town. The first time she mentioned his name, I repeated it in my mind. Ok mind, stop! I said.
Next day, she spoke about the same guy. Wait a nano! Mind said. Now what? I asked. Don't you know this chap? Mind asked. You think so? I asked doubtfully. Yes, dimwit! Mind replied.
I stared at Madhavi. Can't be. I told my mind as I walked out of the room. I stopped at the door. Yes, it is the same chap! Mind echoed. I walked back to Madhavi, looked at her, and said, "This chap is from Bangalore? From that college? Looks like..."
I smiled at her and conveyed the simple fact, "I know him." She blinked. "We were college mates." I explained. "I don't think he remembers me." I said, the devil in me was waking up. A "huh" slipped out of her mouth. Then, her face broke into a smile.
Two naughty girls and one memory-lost guy! And three bored lives! We decided we'll play a fast one on him. That night we schemed a plan, giggled insanely, and slept dreaming about the next day.
She rang him; confirmed his arrival at the decided venue. Plan was that she enters through the Enter gate, and I through the Exit gate. She meets him first, and I watch to confirm if it is the guy was my ex-collegemate. Then, I execute the rest of the plan. Poor chap!
I assumed that there were two gates to the mall. But the mall had one gate. Damn! We saw him waiting for us. She went first, and apologized for being late. My problem is that I can't hide my smile and the devilish glitter in my eyes! I walk to them and say, "Hiee"
Madhavi introduced us. He said, "Hi Asha." This confirmed that he didn't recognize me at all. We were happy. He felt a little uncomfortable. He must have thought, "Why the hell is she staring at me?" He asked, "Do I look familiar?" We giggled. "He's the same." I told my friend. "Oh, a little huger; a little taller!" I added. She giggled. He blinked.
I had a camera with me to capture this moment. But... I took pity on his plight. He had absolutely no idea why we were giggling. "What's happening?" He seemed to silently ask. "I was your classmate..." I let the cat out. "Huh?" That expression can never hide!
"Yep! Your classmate." I smiled. He was startled. We walked into the mall. Madhavi excused herself; she wanted to purchase something. "I remember one Asha. But she was... I mean you are so different!" He said. I nodded.
Throughout the day, he was kind of shaken. You know what? I shouldn't have let him know I was the same Asha, his ex-collegemate. I should have played along, and on the day he returned I should have confided. Well, then he might feel cheated. Bad. So I gave in.
Gang, amazing fun! Oh yes, I requested someone to click our snap! Memories, you see!
I meet strangers. Always!
Asha
